Over View

This is an island in the Barlavento group of Cape Verde. It is the third largest island in the country, after Santiago and Santo Antão, and its largest settlement is the town of Sal Rei. It is characterised by a dry tropical climate with two seasons, the dry season from November to July and the wet season from July to October, although it is possible to go several years without rain. Like the island of Sal, on the island of Boavista visitors will find beaches that can be considered some of the best in the world, ideal for water sports or simply relaxing days on the beach. Boavista's many beaches include Curralinho in the south of the island, also known as Santa Mónica, which is almost 10 kilometres long and is the longest beach in the archipelago, offering you the experience of feeling unique on an isolated and deserted beach. On the island of dunes and date palms, you can enjoy walks, pure leisure, the inevitable conviviality with the morna and the discovery of traditions deeply rooted in a welcoming population. It has the longest beaches in Cape Verde Boavista is therefore considered a paradise for lovers of water sports such as Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, Snorkelling, diving, swimming, beachcombing and deep-sea fishing are some of the sporting activities you can practise while on holiday. Here the ocean is an explosion of colour and life where you can see a wide variety of fish, dolphins, turtles and whales. This is also one of the places chosen by sea turtles to lay their eggs. Sun, sea and beach are the main attractions of this island where white, crystal-clear beaches and a calm ocean offer visitors a relaxing holiday away from stress. Here the people live their lives in peace, transmitting this tranquillity to those who pass through. Sal Rei has an interesting architectural heritage, reflecting the time when salt was an important product in international trade. Several manor houses have survived from that time, such as Benoliel de Carvalho's, now in ruins.
