This tour of the island of Santiago will take you to discover the heart of Cape Verde. We’ll visit the villages of Assomada and Tarrafal and taste the typical grog.
We'll pick you up at 9am from your hotel in Praia and head inland towards the island of Santiago. We'll pass through São Lourenço dos Órgãos and Picos, where we'll stop to taste grogue, a white rum made from sugar cane. We'll also see Pico de Antonia. Did you know it's the highest peak on the island?
We'll reach Assomada and take a stroll through its market, full of vegetables, fruit and fresh fish. Back on the road, we'll cross the Serra da Malagueta Natural Park and arrive at our next destination: Tarrafal.
In this fishing village, we'll find what is considered the most idyllic beach in Cape Verde. This paradise, surrounded by palm trees, was the site of a concentration camp during Salazar's Portuguese dictatorship. Are you ready to learn about its history? We'll visit the Resistance Museum.
Then we'll enjoy lunch in a typical Tarrafal restaurant. The menu includes grilled fish, stuffed tuna or grouper accompanied by rice, vegetables, salad, water and coffee. While savouring these dishes, you'll have incredible panoramic views of the Atlantic.
We'll return to Praia via the bay and deserted beaches. At 5pm, we'll arrive at your accommodation to conclude the tour of the island of Santiago.
