Explore the island with a local guide. Walk among green valleys and streams. Get to know the true culture and history of the São Nicolau people.
This is one of the most revealing walks in the history and culture of the São Nicolau people. The route begins in the rich, green valley of Fajã and goes as far as Assomada da Covada. The route is made between cobbled paths and sometimes within the stream. Once we reach the top, we can see the village of Covoada at the bottom of the valley. After visiting the village, we headed towards Ribeira Funda. An almost deserted stone village planted by the sea. Arriving at Estância Brás, you can rest and have a picnic before continuing the rest of the way back to Fajã. As you leave Estância Brás, you'll often find washerwomen washing clothes and the colour of the clothes scattered on the walls waiting for the wind to dry them. The route ends at the same place as the Fajã.
