Enjoy a 3-hour hike in the Green Valley with a local guide. Admire the lush vegetation and explore the history of the first city built by Europeans in sub-Saharan Africa. Discover the Old Town’s former slave market, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After being picked up from your accommodation in Praia, set off towards the small village of Calabaceira. Start your 3-hour walk from the top of the valley, with an oasis of vast vegetation emerging within. Follow a simple trail accessible to any hiker and explore the verdant valley, famous both for its baobab trees mentioned by Charles Darwin and for its use as an escape route for slaves during slavery.Next, discover the local fauna and flora and have the opportunity to experience the production of a local rum-making distillery. There, get in touch with local farmers and their agricultural fields of sugar cane, mango trees, cassava, bananas and much more.
Reach the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit the Convent of St Francis, Banana Street and the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Take a break for lunch and savour the local delicacies in a typical seaside restaurant.
After lunch, visit the old slave market, the ruins of the Cathedral and the Royal Fortress of São Filipe. From the top, enjoy a beautiful view over the entire old town and learn about the defence system used against pirates. The tour ends with disembarkation at your accommodation in Praia.
