The route starts at Ponta Preta, the island's most beautiful beach where windsurfing championships are held in February, Murdeira - the island's natural harbour, which is also the mating site for loggerhead turtles from June to October, Monte Leão - a mountain in the shape of a lion, the oasis of Fontona, Palmeira - the island's main port with all its colourful houses, Buracona - with its two natural pools and the eye of the teapot, Terra Boa - where you can see the mirage and stop for a bottled drink, the salt flats of the volcano at Pedra de Lume from the top for incredible photos, and possible entry to float in the second saltiest water in the world, Shark watching and return to Santa Maria via the normal road.
